The Voice of a Broken Generation

Last night, I was feeling very strongly about the election and those that didn't vote. It's a right. You should use it. Anyway, I couldn't sleep. There was far too much running through my head. Finally, I flipped on the light and wrote this poem. This morning, I added to it and edited it. It's a little extreme and obviously, God has a plan bigger than politics, but all the same, I think this poem is quite true. Anyway, here it is: The Voice of a Broken Generation.

By Kandis

Our elders hold the scepters

The choices we can’t make

They choose not to speak out

Oh what will be our fate

Opinions are just fine to have

But they can make or break

A nation full of small ones

Of those who made mistakes

Another nation bound

By the choices we don’t make

Will you leave us in the silence

Continue passing by us

Leaving us no destiny

While in your hands, the key

You have a voice

PLEASE USE IT!

Before you finally lose it

You hold our post-present

Will you make it quite unpleasant

You’re gambling our “to be’s”

On your “almost maybes”

Our lives are in the balance

We hardly have a chance

Please stand firm and fight

Use your power-filled right

You are all we’ve got

And yet you use not

Your choice

Your voice

Your vote

You’ve still not spoken

Please speak for us,

A Generation Broken
