This movie is one of a movie that I will watch OVER and OVER and OVER again. Since its debut last Friday at 12:01 AM, I've seen it twice. THAT is how much I enjoyed it.
Why do I love this movie?
- There seem to be an underlying message of teamwork and selflessness- something that this Nation needs to hear, learn and take to heart. The heroes of this movie are shown as people who think they can do everything on their own. They don't need anyone else... or so they think. Thor has a god-like complex, (well, he does play a person who's basically a god in this film) Tony (aka Iron Man) has an ego bigger than the Stark tower, Bruce (the Hulk) is wrapped up in keeping the "other guy" under control while Clint (Hawkeye) and Natalia (Black Widow) are trying to fit in with the group of misfits called "The Avengers". Captain America seems to be the only old-fashioned one of the group. (What a concept! A guy from 1941 is old-fashioned!) He knows the value of teamwork, he's completely humble and selfless. He tries to get the 6 to work as a team. In the end, all of them unite and work as an unstoppable group of superhumans. Each of them risk their life, their souls and everything they deem valuable to save the world.
- The heroes have each others' backs. At the start, as I've said before, the characters are at each others' throat. Loki tries to divide and conquer... and it seems like he's going to succeed at first. However, when Captain America realizes what the evil "god" is trying to do, he quickly informs everyone that they need to work together to conquer him. When Loki and his brainwashed men begin to attack the ship, the 5 are forced to work together. (Iron man with Captain America, while Thor tries to calm the Hulk and Black Widow knocks Hawkeye back into reality, after Loki "unmade" him.) In the fight scene, the group is usually sent out in pairs. My favorite part during that scene is when Thor and Captain America are fighting together, back to back, helping each other.
- Captain America/Steve Rogers is as old-fashioned as ever. Sure, he may be in the 21st century, but Steve hasn't changed much. He's a gentlemanly, handsome and sweet. He knows the value of teamwork and teaches it to the group. He's humble and believes that there is only God. (According to one of his lines in the film that simply stole my heart.)
- Thor is willing to give Loki a chance to redeem his self. When Thor comes and begins to fight Loki, Thor tells him that, in a nutshell, it's not too late to come home. He loves his brother, despite all the trouble that the villain's put him through. This is the kind of love we need to have for each other.
- The movie doesn't read too much into Hawkeye and Black Widow's past romance and, instead, portray their love as a brother-sister bond. I really enjoyed seeing how close the two were. Without reading their "biographies" on Wikipedia (they both have interesting fictitious pasts) I never would've known that the two were "an item" at one point of time. While watching the movie, I was actually inspired by the relationship. They were very close, yet not romantically close. I wonder if they would still have the same relationship if they hadn't been in love? I'm not sure, but I do think that the Hawkeye/Black Widow friendship, brother-sister kind of love is one we should have towards each other.
- The actors and actresses are amazing! They honestly make the story believable. When you consider that most of the acting was done in front of a green screen, you gain a new respect for the talent/profession of acting.
- The movie is funny. There are a lot of one-liners in it! Tony Stark, as you would guess, has many, many lines that sent the entire theater into uproars and fits of laughter. Surprisingly, all the humor was fairly clean. It was quite refreshing!
Overall, this movie is awesome. It's the best I've ever seen. I LOVED it! Do consider, however, that this movie is about superheroes saving the world. That means that there's quite a lot of violence and of course, a lot of action. There are some swear words in it and the movie probably wouldn't be suitable for kids under 12, depending on younger kid's maturity levels.
Avengers is amazing and if you like superheroes, watch it, watch it, watch it! Even if you don't like "superheroes" it's a great storyline and it's a really fun flick. I reccomend it.
Flawed people really can save the world...
