Why Romans 12?
As you’ve probably noticed, a big part of the challenge is to read Romans 12 twice a day. Why did I put this in there? Romans 12 is a guideline for life. It shows us how to keep our minds pure and live according to God’s will and word. Romans 12:2 is what inspired this challenge.
Yesterday, I was showing my friend Katherine the article where I explained all the rules and everything. After some critiquing, she asked “Why Romans 12?” I told her this, but then she continued to go on and say, “This might end up being a “chore” for people. I know it would become one for me.” I agree… so, I have decided to make yet another revision. This is optional, but it IS an option.
Here are three different variations:
Read Romans 12 and Proverbs 31 10-31 (if you’re a girl) once a day.
Take one verse out of Romans, one verse out of Proverbs 31:10-31 and study it. Read it over and over. Write it down. Find out what it means. Memorize it.
Read Romans 12 and a chapter out of Proverbs each day of the challenge. There are 31 chapters in Proverbs, so you may need to read two chapters one day or extend the challenge an extra day.
The whole point of having you read the same chapter/verse in the Bible over and over and over again is that you would memorize it. Over the course of this month, you’ll read your Bible at least 60 times. It’s time that we step up and begin to know His word.
Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” What is more true, what is more praiseworthy than words straight from the mouth of God? We need to know our Bibles so we can defend our faith. We need to be able to combat the enemy with scripture like Jesus in Matt 4:1-11. When we do, we send the enemy into a fear frenzy.
